Parents & Carers :

Welcome

Research shows that Parents are the biggest influence on the career decisions of young people and we want to work with you to help prepare your child for the future

It is up to your son or daughter to decide their own future but the encouragement, support and information you can give can make a big difference to their success. Plans which are well thought out and supported with accurate information are more likely to succeed. If you want to help your son or daughter make a less stressful choice - try these steps

  • Offer support - listen to their ideas even if they seem unrealistic or change a lot
  • Be informed - go to Parents and Options evenings and talk to a Personal Adviser
  • Encourage your son/daughter - discuss courses, careers and personal development opportunities
  • Suggest they seek out and use the information in their school or college Connexions library
  • Talk about the importance of continuing their education or training
  • Find out the range of options for yourself by visiting your nearest centre where we provide information, guidance and vacancy services which are all free of charge for young people. Remember Connexions continues to be available to young people up to the age of 20, even after they have left full time education
  • Find out what last year's Year 11 are doing now

Look out for Forward-Together, the new 14-19 prospectus for Bedfordshire and Luton.

Why not try Fast Tomato - every school in Bedfordshire and Luton has a licence for this exciting programme. Log on with your son or daughter....
